"DOWN THE BARREL"
aka "Luxury Of Love"
"Down The Barrel" is a dangerous, urban love story that follows the adventurous life of Sara Caldwell as she leaves her small town home at 18 and heads to Hollywood with little more than the stars in her eyes. She's a little naive and barely off the bus when her suitcase is stolen and she is left standing in Hollywood with not much more than the clothes on her back. J.C. (Matthew Grant Godbey) a street wise artist, who loves to gamble (but unfortunately is not very good at it), sees SARA and decides to take her in. By helping her he thinks he can keep her from becoming another casualty on the streets of Hollywood, but J.C. is only one step ahead of becoming a statistic himself. Luke Perry, who plays the drug addicted street hustler DAVID, who along with PACO (Stephen Wosniak), make up the only friends that J.C. can truly count on, but their lives on the streets are always one roll of the dice away from danger. Having scraped together enough money for a rundown apt., J.C. is off the streets for the first time in years. We watch J.C. and SARA as they deal with life and the problems of young Hollywood survivalists. MO BIGSLEY (David Rievers), the ever present strip club owner and debt holder to J.C., is bearing down on this struggling odd couple. This plight combined with the problem of RICHARD CHAINEY (Marty Ingels, in a role unlike any other he has portrayed), a producer with a lot of connections to the underbelly of Hollywood who is still fixated on J.C., leads to an anxious existence for the young couple trying to scratch and claw their way to their respective dreams. With J.C.'s reluctant attempts to manipulate SARA into stripping and prostitution to help get him out of debt and SARA's neediness for guidance, support and love, these two extremely different, but oddly linked individuals find comfort, solace and often turmoil with one another. Every character in "LOL" is searching for a brief moment of sanity and a little bit of love. Living only for her dream of an acting career and her love of J.C., SARA gives everything to him, Hollywood and the pursuit of happiness. While J.C. also yearns for success as an artist, he knows that the odds of both he and SARA achieving their dreams, are not very good. Something (or some one) must be sacrificed. Feeling the pressure from RICHARD CHAINEY to return to their old relationship and the fact that his friends DAVID and PACO are still hustling, J.C. is tempted to return to the streets to get the money to pay off his debts. In a desperate move, J.C. decides to give SARA her chance. He formulates a plan to set up RICHARD to be robbed and enlists DAVID's help. But before DAVID can agree to this dangerous scheme, he ends up hospitalized by a brutal attack, leaving J.C. having to rely on their less experienced friend PACO. This plan sets J.C. and PACO on a road they aren't prepared for, a road where things explode out of control and the lives of everyone involved changes forever.
